Science is a systematic, data-driven, and continually self‑correcting process of inquiry aimed at developing and refining explanations about the world. Essential features of science include transparency, testability, replicability, and falsifiability.
Sexuality science is the interdisciplinary study of the multifaceted perceptions, experiences, and/or expressions (or lack thereof) of human sexuality, including sexual interests, behaviors, relationships, and functioning.
As a community committed to the scientific study of sexuality, we approach science as both a method and a shared responsibility of studying one of the most fundamental dimensions of human life, with the aim of producing knowledge that improves human well‑being.
We affirm that scientific freedom and scientific responsibility are inseparable. The freedom to ask bold questions, pursue evidence wherever it leads, and communicate findings openly must be paired with the responsibility to conduct research with integrity, care, and respect for human rights. This includes careful attention to representativeness and generalizability, clarity in terminology, and real-world usefulness. We commit to producing rigorous, accessible knowledge that supports quality of life and reflects the full range of human experiences.
